Waunarlwydd Match Report 52-0

Dai Rose

We were on the road again today. It was a short hop to neighbouring Waunarllwydd for another local derby.

We warmed up well but were then informed that they had only 11 players. So we had to change things up a bit and offerred them some of our players so that we could make it a proper game. We had 27 kids, so this wasn’t too much of a problem.

Thanks to all the boys and girls that offered to play for Waunarlwydd as this enabled all the kids all to have a full game.

Tom, our new captain lost the toss (tit), and Waunarllwydd opted to kick to us. We worked hard in the pack and both forwards and backs linked well through Sam at 10. Rio was on fire too and tackled his heart out as usual.

We were strong in attack and scored some lovely tries in the first half. We did butcher a few too, so there’s plenty to work on in training. We defended well, and with Archie as our defensive captain, they couldn’t break us down. We went into the sheds at 33-0.

It was all change at halftime, and we rolled out almost an entirely new team. Waunarllwydd made some changes, too, with a few more of our kids donning the green jersey for the last 25-minutes.

It was much the same in the second half. We worked hard and managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over. We broke the line several times and scored another three or four tries before the ref brought things to a close.

Waunarlwydd never gave up, though, and kept coming at us all game.

We have a stern test on Friday against Whitchurch, and we will be keen to learn from our outing today.

Player of the game was a hard one to call today with Archie, Rio, Scott and Eben all putting their hands up. Eben came away with the silverware for his barnstorming runs. Well done kids. See you on Tuesday 👍
