YOUNG DUNVANT TRIUMPH OVER SOUTH GOWER IN STIRRING CUP CLASH
In the embrace of a sunny Broadacre, the Dunvant RFC Under 13s locked horns with South Gower in a thrilling District Cup encounter this weekend. The weather was perfect for an engaging bout of rugby.
Koby was our new captain today, and it was good to see him get off to a winning start!
Emerging victorious in a solid 36-12 triumph, the boys were still riding high on confidence following last week’s gripping win against Whitchurch. However, the coaches were keen to avoid complacency, ensuring the lads kept their focus sharp, even amidst a few injury setbacks. We trained well this week, and our game plan of keeping a high ‘ball in play’ time to tire South Gower’s massive pack proved pivotal.
By half-time, Dunvant had carved out a sturdy 17-7 lead, skilfully pinning South Gower in their half for expansive periods, forcing them to play their rugby from deep. The precision and pressure applied via our kick-chase forced them into making errors deep in their half.
Despite their defeat, South Gower showcased resilience, particularly at the breakdown, and they made it difficult for us to get quick ball to our backs.
During the drama, Ben Whettleton arose as the undoubted man of the match, stringing together impressive carries and exhibiting a relentless work rate that was nothing short of inspiring. He had a brace of tries for his efforts, too!
The coaches were pleased with their squad’s execution of the game plan, appreciating how effectively the boys mobilised South Gower’s hefty forwards across the park.
Our sights are set on the next fixture - a friendly bout against Llanelli at Broadacre. We hope to get a few boys back from injury and continue the momentum that we’ve already built.

Fantastic 👏👏👏
