Well, we’ve played our first official game of the season. Our hosts were Penlan, and for once, it wasn’t raining sideways up there!
We started strongly, and Penlan managed to hold us out with some good tackling and defiant defence. We kept knocking at the door, and some quick ruck ball and slick passing saw us cross for the first try. Sam was class with boot today and added the conversion too.
We kept running hard and straight at Penlan and the hard work paid off as we were able to score another couple of tries before the interval. It was nice to see them being scored out wide too. Our flying wingers Isak and Ellis finishing their trys nicely. Sam slotted a few more conversions, and it was 40-0 at halftime.
The coaches were pleased with our defence as Penlan barely got out of their half.
Penlan started stronger in the second half and managed to put us under pressure. They pinned us in our half, and a few missed tackles allowed them to make ground. Their hard work paid off, and they came away with a brace of trys to make it 40-10.
We kept battling, though but just could seem to break them down. We got over the gain a line a few times, but little handling errors took the pressure off Penlan, and we failed to capitalise.
The game ended 40-10 to Dunvant.
We were a little rusty at times, but these things will get sorted now that all the kids are back together.
