October news

anthonydyke41
Morning all! As promised some important updates regarding the month of October. As a team we will have a lot going on both on and off the field, and as a group of coaches we feel its important all players and parents know exactly what to expect.

Fixture wise we have 7 games in the diary already, and for the next 4 weeks we have both Friday and Sunday fixtures arranged. This is going to take huge effort to manage to ensure we have enough players available to play on both a Friday and Sunday. Also, we will be working hard to make sure players are involved in as much rugby as possible.

With this in mind, we have decided to select specific playing squads for each game, so all players and parents know which game they will be involved in advance.

Obviously there will be some players that will be selected in both match day squads as ideally we will be picking about 22 players for each game. This will mean some crossover as the game is now 15 aside and we will also require a number of players to cover the bench.

The way the fixtures work out some of games will be development games and the others played against stronger opposition, so playing squads will be selected with this mind.

As a coaching team we will try to be as fair and as transparent as possible. However, as a general rule of thumb we will be picking the squads based on the opposition we play, to ensure the games are competitive and as productive as possible for all involved.

Ultimately this is about player development and the enjoyment of playing rugby, so we will aim to work hard over the next few weeks to get this right.

Our first Ospreys cup match is scheduled in for Sunday 23rd October, against Birchgrove away. We will be selecting a squad of 22 for this game and any players that are not involved will be starting and playing in the next game the following week. Selection for the cup matches will based on a number of factors however, attendance and commitment to training on a Tuesday leading up to the 23rd is extremely important as effort, attitude and commitment in these sessions will be taken into consideration.

We appreciate this is alot to take in and if you have any questions please give any of the coaching team a shout at any time.

To make this process as simple as possible can you please just commit and state availability for the games as normal, by using the RSVP on the app.

We will then select the match day squads based on the RSVP's and the factors already highlighted above. You will then be updated on player selection prior to game day via the app and whatsapp groups.

Finally in addition to on the field, there will be lots to do off the field aswell, so we will be looking for some volunteers to help out with food over coming weeks. We plan to serve up another pasta this Friday and then do a BBQ against Whitchurch on the 7th October, and thats just the start.

Thanks you for your continued support.
